What is the SY Health & Care Education Conference?
STH Learning, Education & Development in partnership with South Yorkshire Integrated Care System, bring you a conference for educationalists across the South Yorkshire Region.
A full day programme of inspiring speakers and innovative workshops, to support and develop our 21st Century educators.
If you have a role in clinical or non-clinical education; if you educate colleagues or the wider team; or if you aspire to work in this field in the future, this is the conference for you!

Why Civility Matters in our Complex World by Chris Turner
Have you ever had a professional interaction that has left you feeling disrespected? Left you feeling distracted and not performing at your best? It turns out that this isn’t just you, it’s all of us.
Most excellent healthcare is dependent on teams, and teams work best when all members feel safe and have a voice. Incivility robs teams of their potential. Civility between team members, on the other hand, creates that sense of safety and is a key ingredient of great teams.

How to Navigate Digital and AI Tools and Platforms Ethically Across Healthcare and Education by Katie King
During this inspiring, accessible, and pragmatic session, Katie will provide an overview of the key benefits which AI and digital tools can bring to educators and learners in teams across South Yorkshires Health & Care Services
The Keynote will provide useful examples of how it is already being practically applied by related industries. Katie will also provide insight into the current and future tools, platforms and vendors that teams can use to continue to innovate and thrive.

Making the 1% Difference: How the Smallest Things Make the Biggest Difference by Steve Head
In this keynote, Steve will share lessons learned from over 40 years of Coaching experience, a pandemic, and Coaching the England Wheelchair Rugby League World Champions in 2022.
This will be a fast-paced, uplifting, practical session that is guaranteed to help you feel more positive mentally and be able to perform more consistently under pressure.

Emotionally Intelligent Educating – Thinking about our Feelings
What does Emotional Intellegence (EI) mean to you? EI is concerned with how people manage themselves; their personality, potential and innate resources to be both personally and interpersonally effective. How well they do this is largely determined by their attitudes. In this workshop we will explore how attitudes influence feelings that fuel thinking and drive behaviour, and consider how you can apply EI as an educator.
This will primarily be a knowledge sharing session where participants will be introduced to Emotional Intelligence as a construct but with a promise that EI can be developed and used to support the learning of others.

Harness the power of AI to personalise patient care and to educate and empower your staff!

Understanding Reasonable Adjustments
A practical introduction to reasonable adjustments including their purpose, scope and impact on learners and staff, by providing insight into the barriers that may be experienced and how these have been overcome to better support learners and staff within South Yorkshire and beyond.

1) Understanding the Equality Act 2010 and an organisation’s legal and moral responsibilities
2) Understanding what reasonable adjustments are, who is entitled to them and who is responsible

Metaphors: Effective and Positive Learning Experiences and Mindset
We use metaphors in our everyday language; so let’s understand how we can use metaphors as a starting point to support a positive psyche at work.
Through the use of various creative methods, we will dive into how the use of metaphors can help us pinpoint our current challenges and how we might start to step across or hurdle over them, to help support ourselves and others. Participants will explore and understand how their use in education, learning and everyday life can be an invaluable resource to increase a positive psyche in the workplace.

Understanding the Patient Journey: Enhancing Education in Care through Empathy
This workshop is designed to deepen healthcare professionals’ understanding of the patient experience. Using Empathy Mapping, participants will develop patient personas specific to their healthcare and educational settings. Includes role-play activities from a patient’s perspective and group discussions to analyse these personas in depth, focusing on patients’ emotional and physical needs, supporting your development as educators. This insight will equip participants to make more empathetic and informed decisions both in your own practice and in supporting others’ practice, ultimately enhancing patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Safe to Learn Here: the Safe Learning Environment Charter
As early adopters of the NHSE Safe Learning Environment Charter (SLEC), Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) have taken an all encompassing, inclusive and multidisciplinary approach aligned to the People Strategy, Clinical Quality Strategy and Education Quality Framework.
In adopting the Charter early, DBTH recognise that learners all need to feel safe to learn and are supported by compassionate, positive role models, every day and everywhere.
In this workshop we will share our approach, resources and learning, as well as next steps to embed the Charter throughout your Trust. Discussion and questions will be welcomed and facilitaited, to inform and support those considering adoption or adaptation of the charter in their organisation.
